How do I install a single sata drive on a Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard. there are 4 sata connectors on this board which go in hand with the Promise or the Via controller depends on what connector it is connected to. Also I do know that I have to make a floppy, I have explorer the motherboard CD to find the Makedisk.exe utility. As I see there are three different utilitys, what one do I use? I ask for someone that has done this to respond. I do know to press f6 to install the floppy drivers but how do I choose the controller? So for anyone that has done this on a single sata drive, this is what I need to know.

1) What sata connector do I use for a single drive on the motherboard?
2) How do I choose the controller, Promise or Via?
3) And what Makedisk.exe Utility do I use? there are 3 different ones.
4) Is there any Bios changes that I should do to make it all work?

1) I'd use the Promise controller since it has SMART monitoring.

2) In the BIOS and by default (stock settings) both controllers should be automatically enabled. IIRC the pair of SATA ports closest to the PATA connector is the Promise controller while the 2 closest to the bottom of the case (assuming it's installed in one) is controlled by the VIA controller.

3) Don't remember but I'd go to ASUS's download page and get the latest driver NEways. FYI: There's 3 drivers available, VIA SATA RAID (works for single drive setups too), Promise RAID, & Promise ATA mode.

4) Not really to my knowledge but it doesn't hurt. If you do decide to flash the BIOS, it's much simpler/neater to flash the BIOS in Windows w/ "ASUS Update" (another program available @ ASUS's download page).

EDIT: Scratch #2 and reverse what I said about the SATA ports; VIA SATA ports on top and Promise @ the bottom. In other words, the pair of SATA ports should relate to the controller it's closest to.
