install a new canon printer

I am trying to help another who has a used computer install a new canon printer. It came with the software, but when we put it in, it did not go directly to the start up. I went into Run to start the new program and I don't know which drive or letter to type in the command line. Does anyone know how I can find out this information. We are using Windows 95. What drive does the printer go to? The instructions for the printer said use X:\Startup. That didn't work.
