Instability issues

OK, so I had 1GB of DDR 466, did 233mhz bus at 2.6v

I OCed to 2.53ghz and everything was fine, no problems at all

Just got this new 2x 1GB Patriot Extreme

Tried OCing, no matter what voltages or timings it wouldnt pass memtest at over 225mhz bus

So, I booted up at 2.475ghz a few times, but I was having random restarts, like I'd be doing something and the things would act like i had pushed the reset button.

So Im back to everything at default, RAM, CPU, everything.

Im still getting the restarts... any idea what it could be, does RAM need burn in time?

Not really sure what your issue is here. Telling us you booted up at a particular GHz means nothing when we have no idea what your CPU is. (Your links don't work if you don't know) We need to know your complete system specs.

It sound like to me that you are just unhappy that your RAM doesn't OC a much as you thought it would. Is that correct?

What RAM did you have before?
You bought new Patriot RAM. Ok, what speed, what timings is it rated at?
How experienced are you with OC'ing?

How to link to your rig in your sig

Ok, first that RAM is excellent for the price, but it's not great OC'ing RAM.
You will need to loosen up the timings to get much of an OC out of it.
Also if your previous RAM was 466, then why did you go with 400 this time? You shouldn't realistically expect the same speed unless you buy some more expensive (better OC'ing) RAM. Unless the 466 is a mistake.

Try lowering the timings to 2.5-3-3-6, or something similar. You will need to play with the timings some to find what works. You may even need to go to 3-x-x-x to get it working at 225+.

Try that and let us know what happens.

I was going to suggest what Ike said... honestly just sounds like a memory being pushed a bit too far issue... loosen up to CAS3 and give it a try again.

I bet it works fine

CAS# Latency: 2.0
tRC: 11
tRFC: 13
tRCD: 3
tRRD: 2
tRAS: 5
tRP: 2
tWR: 3
tWTR: 2
tRWT: 3
tREF: 2x3120

I know which ones are the 2-3-2-5 that need to be 3-4-4-8

But do the others need adjusted?

You are trying to get 200mhz ram to run at 233mhz. I am not saying it cannot be done but that is asking for a lot for non-performance ram.

When you say " any voltage " up to what did you go to? And is that actually getting through? (some motherboards undervolt. like most abits)

I would say update bios along with everything else, try voltage of no more than 2.8/2.9 (unless it is rated as being able to take more. doubtful as it's only pc3200). Do it fast or otherwise return it and get some higher quality stuff that will make you happy...

This RAM is made for overclocking, supposed to do 533mhz a 3-4-4-8, 2.8v (2.8v is max covered by warranty).

I upped to 2.8

Are you saying you tried this and it failed?

I meant setting the timings to 3-4-4-8 and then OC'ing.
Le us know what happens when you raise the timings.
