Dell Inspiron 9300. 17" screen. Nvdia Go 6800 2ith 256 MB. Using Dzer0point. (latest version).

Windows XP Home.

Recently a 1 pixel line vertical appears about 2 inches from the left edge of the laptop display. For a while it would fade in and out, now it appears all the time.

I disassembled the laptop, vaccuumed it out, did not see any signs of fans not working, but it still appears.

Any suggestions? It is 3 years old and it's been beaten up...

I would check the cable from the laptop motherboard to the inverter to make sure it is not flexed or crimped, and check that both ends are seated firmly.

I would replace that cable first, as you should be able to snag one for pretty cheap on E-bay.

If that does not fix the problem, I would try to replace the inverter card next. This is the long thin card that is usually screwed to the bottom of the panel itself.

Barring that, there is a ribbon cable from the inverter, to the panel. This usually isn't the culprit, but it would be the next thing I'd check.

After that ... the panel is all that's left.

I'm fairly confident that it's one of the ribbon cables, or a connection that has come unseated, or a bad inverter.
