Dell doesn't say what type of DDR the 6800 option for the 9300 comes with. Basically there is DDR1 or DDR3 for this graphics card. I'm assuming that since Dell doesn't specify it must be the much slower DDR1 version.

Does anybody know for certain?

Actually its DDR or [bG[/b]DDR3; but yes, it uses regular DDR. I'm not even sure if their Go6800 Ultra uses GDDR3; its up to the manufacturer to decide

Dell advertises the XPS 2 uses DDR3 but says nothing about the 9300 which leads me to assume as others have confirmed that it's DDR1 only.

Other performance notebooks from Alienware, Sager, etc that utilize the GF Go 6800 (non-ultra) advertise DDR3 and sometimes give the option for the less expensive DDR1 version. The X800 mobility is DDR3 also and supposed to perform in between the 6800 DDR1 and DDR3 models (closer to the higher end).

I have not yet seen an advertised laptop with the X800XT mobility which is possibly faster than the 6800Ultra and the first 16 pipe laptop graphics chip. Last month's MaximumPC tested an Area-51 with this card but Alienware doesn't seem to be currently offering it as an option. Maybe due to availablity problems?

I was interested in a smaller gaming laptop and wanted to avoid the Clevo behemoths like the Area-51 or Sager 9880 or even the Dells for that matter. I can pick up a really nice Sager 7620 with the DDR3 6800, a 7200rpm drive, a Gig of RAM, and a Pentium 640 for under $2100 and it comes with the smaller 15.4" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) screen for easier mobility. This thing would definatly kick the crap out of the Dell 9300 with a sharper, albeit slightly smaller screen.

I checked out the mini review at notebookforums of the 7620, and the scores seem to be pretty much in-line with what my Inspiron 9300 does with the P-M 1.6 processor. Actually I'd be a bit concerned with having a P4 Desktop chip in the 7620. The 9300 just simply does not get hot on the bottom or the top at all, unlike the old Inspiron 8200 I had (which used P4 mobile processors) The 7620 seems to be a bit thicker than the 9300 also, the pictures make it look like the bottom is about 3/4 inch more thick.

Yeah, I can't imagine that the 7620 is lighter than the i9300. But if you were concerned about the size rather than weight, then you made out

I have the 9300, and it uses DDR1 memory, with a 290MHz core\295MHz RAM (590MHz effective). I've tested an overclock on it to 360MHz core\360MHz RAM (720MHz effective). It worked fine for all gaming that I did (CS:S, HL2, GTA: San Andreas, UT2004), and gave some pretty impressive results. I'm running it at stock, cuz I really don't need my lappy to be an uber gaming machine, as my main rig does that for me ;). The bottom does get noticeably hotter, though not uncomfortably so. Any other questions? Just ask :).
