I am trying to get the best bang for my buck for basically every part except the HDD and the RAM which i am planning to replace...

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
17 inch UltraSharp? Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife?
512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDA® GeForce? Go 6800
80GB 5400rpmHard Drive
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer write capability
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915 Internal Wireless (802.11 a/b/g, 54Mbps)
Primary Battery 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (53 WHr)
1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr HW Warranty Support
Additional Battery 9-cell Lithium Ion Additional Battery (80 WHr)

The Total after discounts is $1161.00 before tax & shipping.

Does the 2GHz processor make a noticable difference in gaming compared to the 1.73GHz, how about in general usage and moderate multitasking?

Thanks for the help.

I would suggest the regular screen as people have had problems with the ultrasharp screen on the dell. ALso, I would suggest the 1.73, as it isn't that far off from 2.0 and the price premium isn't worth it. THe only other thing I would change is to get a lower HD. 60 gig if possible, so you can switch it to an aftermarket 7200RPM one.

Edit: I would get AT LEAST the 2 year warrenty. You never know with dells.

Theres been problems with all the ultrasharp screens. I think that they are blurry or something like that.

How ironical.

I got my 9300 last month and the ultrasharp screen is fine. From the posts I have read they had a problem but seem to have a grip on it now.

Yeah, the ultrasharps had a problem with a certain Manufacturer (namely Hitachi), but have since been upgraded so now all the ultrasharps are a-ok. Check out the 9300 section on notebookforums for details.

Why would configuring the 9300 with a smaller hard drive allow one to put in an aftermarket hd later on?

Also, can the 'Transcend 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM' memory from new egg be used on the 9300 in dual channel configuration? thanks.

haha. i personally never had a problem with my ultra sharp screen. i love it

the 1.73 is a 533mhz FSB processor, pin mod will not work.

I did not see a 400mhz processor on the configurator. Looks like they have stopped selling them.

The size of the current drive is irrelevant to your ability to swap for a larger drive later. The machine can only hold one drive so if you opt for a larger drive you will have to take the current drive out and put the new larger drive in.

Yes that memory will run in dual channel mode.
