Inspiron 9100 screen blank

I have a Del Inspiron 9100 with a 15.4" LCD that seems to have a bad CCFL. when I first turn it on, the screen works for a while, but then it gets very reddish and finally blanks out after ~20min. I am hoping the lamp can just be replaced (~$20) but I wonder if the inverter is bad too. Does anyone know a way to tell?
