One of my brother-in-laws is thinking of getting an Inspiron 9100 with the Radeon 9700 graphics.
I'm not sure if he should spend the extra $129 for the 128mb R9700 or not. He plans to keep the thing for his 4 years at college.

Do any games actually require 128mb or is 64mb fine?
Thanks.

If he plans on keeping it for 4 years without an upgrade it will definitely be a nice little boost. The more memory will be nice in games that want to load more textures simultaneously into the video memory, which is basically every new game coming out. Other than that there will be no performance increase, most of what is currently out there utilizes 64 MB...with a few exceptions like Farcry. I have heard 64 MB laptop card owners (ie emachine 680x owners) say they experience a bit more of a grind on Farcry.

If he must get a *ell then yes upgrade to the 128. I suggest if he wants Intel look at Powernotebooks or someone like that.

Yup. But I swore to myself I'd never buy another Dell. If he can choose, there are better ones available.
