i think this is the deal i'm gonna bite. how is this video card? is it worth it to upgrade to the 64MB version? i was gonna upgrade to the SXGA+ screen as well

Sometimes they have those $100off $1499coupons and $250 mail-in-rebate on the 8600. You should probably wait until those things come out before you buy. Would save you another couple hundred.

I would add $69 to upgrade to a 7200rpm hard drive if you're going to bite on this. Very cost-efficient performance increase as hard drives are one of the big bottlenecks in notebooks. Those drives sell for around $250.

Before you bit, read up on the 8500/8600 in the Dell forums. There have been issues with the keyboard apparently, plus Dell's customer service has gone way downhill and it sounds like their quality has as well. Make sure you know what you're buying.

ok, i'll hold off. now that i think about it, the last dvd burner deal they had was hotter, if i'm not mistaken.

argghhh, this is such a gamble.

should i skip on upgrading to 1.5 WSXGA+ and 64MB GeForce Go and just go with the ATI Radeon for 199?


i'm buying with my Amex, so it will afford me some reliability! dell is sending out replacement keyboards, but people only reported problems aboutthe 8500, not 8600
