Inspiron 8600: Can it interface with infrared devices?

I've looked on various sites but I can't figure it out, does the Inspiron have infrared support? I Want to transfer files to my cell phone.

My Inspiron 8500 did which is the same as the 8600 except uses a Pentium-M. The infrared port was under the PCMCIA slot and had to be turned on in the BIOS. I remember using it a few times with an HP laser printer with IR. Worked fine.

Yeah theres a slot under the PCMCIA slot but it's covered, summarily I don't see anything in the bios and there is no mention of it in the owners manual.

/me is confused.

That covered slot is the IR port. It looks like you have one, maybe they changed the BIOS around between models and you dont need to turn it on in the BIOS. http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=1899 Scroll down to page 3 and it says they used it.

Go into control panel and open up wireless link and see if you can enable it there.

It appears in the version w/o the serial and parallel ports the 8600c has no infrared.

Oh well, sorry to hear that. Time to get internal Bluetooth, if you dont have it already and upgrade your cell phone to one with Bluetooth. 🙂 That works even faster than IR.
