My friend has a Dell Inspiron 8100 that's a little over a year old.

It freezes up randomly...but mostly in windows/internet explorer.

He admits he may have dropped it, and thinks he spilled something on it long ago...but it's been doing this for a long time.

I checked the RAM to make sure it was firmly in place...other than that, I'm not sure what to do. Anyone have ideas? I'm thinking about buying it from him if I can fix it...

Thanks.

Is it still under warranty? If it is, you can send it in to Dell to have it checked up.

If not, then try formatting his hard drive for him. The notebook should've come with a recovery disk with the OS.

BTW, Dell is great about fixing things under warranty. My laptop fans start making grinding noises after about 3 months so I called up tech support. They sent me a box with another box in it and a prepaid shipping slip. I didn't have to pay a dime to get it fixed. I'm really glad that I got the 3 year limited warranty.

I don't think it is still under warranty, but I'll ask him.

We've already formatted and re-installed once. He has admitted to spilling a drink on it...the bastard.
