I ordered Windows ME with my dell laptop and installed a windows 2000 dualboot on it myself.

When I boot into WinME, the LCD shuts off when i close the lid.. when i boot into win2k, it stays on all the time

Does anyone know how to get it to shut off in windows 2000? i think there must be some driver that i didn't know about that manages this?
(I'm sure someone else has installed win2k on their laptop - do you notice the same thing?)

I'm also sure dell won't help me because i installed 2k myself.

i don't want to use up the life of the LCD unnecessarily :(

It can also create a lot of unwanted head directly over the CPU.

In most notebooks, what happens when you shut the lid is normally found in the unit's BIOS.

I find it sort of an academic question at best . . . I either leave the lid open or turn off the computer. :)

i shut the lid when i'm using an external monitor - it's sort of a pain to have to remember to manually shut off the lcd every time, and i just shouldn't have to do that, even though i can

people are way too tolerant of their computers, i think

i looked in the bios - but if it was there, winME behavior would not be different from Win2000 behavior.

sigh
the options there are "None", "Standby", and "Power Off"

the options are the same in ME, except the lcd turns off when it's set to "None"
