Well, my inspiron 600m is broken, and the warranty is up. Dell wants $700 for the repair so I want to open it up to check for any visible damages to the motherboard or the ac port. Does anybody know how to take the thing apart?
I will only send it to dell if I know for sure its nothing I can fix myself.

Also.. you sure putting 700$ into a 1100$ machine is a good idea?

Might be better if you ebay the laptops
1) screen
2) hdd
3) optical drive
4) battery
5) RAM
6) Processor
7) Anything else that can be sold...

Add whatever you get to your 700 $ and you ll get a new 600m with 1 year warranty .... (If you wanna buy another 600m that is... )

Paying $700 for a repair on an $1100 machine is a horrible idea. Thats the reason for this post. The computer will not power up with or without the battery and/or the ac adapter.
The battery seems to have no energy, and when I plug in the ac adapter to the computer, the green LED on the adapter shuts off. I have 2 ac adapters, and they both act the same way. Its doubtful that its a problem with the battery, or the adapters. It has to be the ac port or the motherboard.
Thanks yomicron for the service manual. I'm gonna get hacking away on this. Any other suggestions? Please post.

suggestions?

be very very careful .. :D

Relax, its easy, i have opened my 8500 many times... just keep cool and you ll be fine...

Dont try to force anything out or in.... Be reasonable with that amount of pressure you apply to fit the parts back..

If something isnt fitting back, relax, take a break and try again.

When you open it up, you might want to take a few pictures with a digicam ... to know what was where when you opened it ...

and yeah... lastly... dont loose the screws!
