Inspiron 4000 and Latitude C/PortII question.

Hi folks, I hope someone could help me out here.
I posted this same thread in Technical Support Forum befor I realized there was a notebook forum. Sorry folks.

I Have owned both a Dell Inspiron 4000 and a Dell Latitude 600. Both of these laptops are for all intensive purposes, technically identical. They differ only slightly in case cosmetics. ( Latitude has a curve where the Inspiron doesn't. That sort of thing.) All external connections are identical and in exact same locations. Motherboards and every other internal component can be swapped without issue.

Heres my problem, I think. At one point I had purchased a Port Replicator for the Latitude. The C/PortII. This worked with the latitude just fine.

A little while later, I sold the Latitude and tried to use the Port Replicator on the Inspiron. It fit perfectly as if it was made for it. But when I booted a bios screen warning came up stating that the Ispiron was not designed for this port replicator, remove immediately to avoid damage to you laptop.

I freaked and removed the laptop right away. No damage of course.

I was wondering, if I flashed the Inspirons BIOS with the Latitude 600 BIOS would it then let me use the port replicator?

Like I said, these laptops are absolutely technically identical in every way shape and form.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
