Inspired by the other thread with the kid and 256MB video memory...

After creating that post and thinking about that thread, it got me thinking, maybe I should create a book/binder (small one). It would have benchmarks from 5 hardware sites comparing the performance of all the video cards and then on the last page, a spreadsheet of all the performance figures and ranking of each video card's performance. I'd bring this to the store and ask them to leave it there so that it's easily accessable to customers and employees and it would help people in their purchasing decisions..

When you take your project to the store, please video the experience so we can all share in your complete and unfathomed humiliation.

Maybe you should ask the manager to let you put up 'exotic speaker cables & interconnects are a scam' flyers all over the Monster Cable section.

That might be the stupidest thing you've ever posted.

While you're at it, why not ask them to post printouts of a few web sites showing how Bose products and Monster Cables suck. That should go over well :)

I don't see how this WOULDN'T be beneficial to the store.. It would clearly show that the lower end products don't suffice for gaming and it would guide people who don't plan on playing any games to the right video card, assuming of course they know about it. Those who plan to game would instead pay around $200+ instead of $100 thinking that should suffice when it really can't.

They (the business) would rather sell a product. If you come in and show how their product is inferior, they lose business. It isn't fair to assume that just because you point out a product is inferior that a consumer is going to buy the better technology. In the end, you cost them business. They don't like you or your ideas.

This is where you fail.

Move onto your next ingenious plan please.

People who walk into a store to buy a $100 video card do so because they can't afford a $200 video card. A good salesman might get him up to $120 - but not $200. That logic is wrong. Let's say there are two cards each for $100. The superior one earns the store a $10 profit while the inferior one nets a $16 profit. Now what would you, as a store owner, want to sell more of?

A store will do what it can to clear its stock. A store's purpose is to sell all products - good or bad - as long as each sale allows them to make a profit. Sure, in an ideal world, a store would only stock only 5 video cards at 5 price points - but life is not that simple. It's a commercial establishment, not a messiah.

BTW, I just realized that what you want already exists on another level in the form of customer reviews on online retailers' sites. But I seriously can't imagine something like that in a Brick & Mortar store.

I think you should do this. Make sure to mumble a lot too to complete the utterly humiliating experience. You'll look back on this day when telling stories to your grandchildren about what a friggin dork you were.
