Regarding the p4

Inserting whole pipeline stages just to account for wire delay is necessary only if you plan to push a design to insanely high clock speeds.

I don't understand the article. Over my head.

Nonetheless, I'd love to have a 1.8 GHz PPC970 in my next desktop Mac (or else at least a fast G4 in my iBook).

The G4 desktops and G3 iBooks are getting pretty long in the tooth.

I think the chances are good that you'll see it as the G5 within a year or so.

but sure looks tasty to me. I would consider a mac for the sake of checking out the chips abilities
