Inside Line just got a Raptor (6.2L of course)

I despise trucks. Unless they're total Dakar/Baja badass trucks. This is going to be fun to follow.

http://www.insideline.com/ford/f-15...-f-150-svt-raptor-62-long-term-road-test.html

With the new 6.2-liter V8 we get 411 hp and 434 pound-feet of torque, which is 101 more hp and 69 lb-ft more torque that the 5.4-liter. The 6.2-liter uses the same six-speed transmission and weighs slightly more. So much so (6,006 pounds) that Ford isn't required to have its fuel economy tested. Loophole much?

There are some answers with this truck. but there are just as many questions. For the next 12 months and 20,000 miles, we hope to answer as many as possible. Oh, and have a ton of fun ripping through, well, anywhere that our 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor 6.2 will fit.

Current Odometer: 917.7
Best Fuel Economy: 12.4
Worst Fuel Economy: 10.6
Average Fuel Economy: 11.6

I saw one of those on the road a couple days ago and thought "That actually looks pretty badass". I'll be following that site to see what they have to say.

The grille is so ugly. It really needs dual exhaust to look more sporty as well.

I'm a big fan of what Ford has been doing lately, but this one doesn't really impress me. Why can't I have a 6.2L, 400+ HP, RWD, 6MT Fusion? It'd be the perfect counter for the G8 / CTS / G37 / etc. 😛

I want one so bad... Test drove the 5.4 and 6.2 (couldn't deal with the 5.4) but at the end of the day, the fucker is too wide to park in my building 🙁

I passed one yesterday on a side street and it barely fit on it's side of the road. 😀

Very nice looking truck though..

Because it would understeer into a wall and kill you dead.

Thats assuming the weight of the engine wouldn't pin the wheel wells onto the tires 🙂

When I first saw a raptor last year it was one of the few trucks I outwardly exclaimed surprise at. I thought Ford had pimped all their trucks, but it's only the Raptor 🙂 Looks nice in blue but I like the sunset orange, too.

I rather like the grill personally.

Not sure why it needs dual exhaust though...

Why no NAV system? 😕

No pre-defined roads where this thing is going.

Agreed...other than getting sync so I can use bluetooth/mp3's...I'm not keen on NAV in cars these days. My iPhone does NAV as good as any in car unit I've used...and as good as my TomTom that I bought a couple years ago. And old Nav systems date cars SOOO much. If my 2002 vehicle didn't have NAV...it wouldn't seem nearly as old. It's Atari quality graphics just don't cut it...just as the graphics in today's Nav's will look prehistoric in 10 years.

To the grocery store and back?

Chances are monied 'necks are just going to cruise in these instead of forking over 60K on the King Ranch dually.

Same poserific outcome minus the stacks in the back.

Thanks for that sensationally valuable input.....

We've already got a couple guys who have them here (at the plant where we build the 6.2L). They absolutely love taking them offroad. It's one bad-ass truck, and always gets looks and people coming over to ask questions.

I've also heard border patrol is looking into them...couldn't think of a better application of the truck.

Great story, the people who will be buying these where I live will be taking them to Outback on Saturday night. Also, most of the people I know who are into off-roading can't afford a $40,000 truck.

I'm not hating on it, it's a very capable machine, just stating the facts as they are in my world.

Ive seen two of these in South OC, both caked in mud. /Shrug

The 5.4 didn't get stellar gas mileage either. Then again, at around 14 or so mpg compared to 11 that's a good 20% better...

My jeep has been turning a non-variable 19 mpg city/highway mix. I think I got 20 mpg on a mostly highway tank. That's far more horrific than 11 mpg when you realize it's just an anemic six banger in a 50% lighter truck.

$40,000 is pretty much starting price for anything that isn't a Kia or Camry these days... I'd say that price is crazy (good) based on what little I know about the Raptor. Leave it to SVT to build something completely bad ass but still affordable.
