What are they putting inside heat pipes these days? Water? Methanol? Ethanol? Proprietary mixture?

Proprietary... but just about any thin liquid can be used. The liquid, combined with altering interior pressure during manufacturing, can be adjusted to pinpoint required vaporization temperatures.

What's actually in the heatpipes inside your computer? Dunno.
