Hi ,

I bought 2 x 512mb Corsair PC3200 Value Ram at the weekend .

I took out my old RAM reset the CMOS jumper and put the new RAM in , the motherboard wouldnt boot it would just start up the CPU and NF4 Chipset fans.

My motherboard is a DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR , and it has 4 Diagnostic LED's these usualy light up 1 at a time when the MB is booting until the end of bootup and there all lit up.

But now as soom as i press the on button the fans start and the 4 LED's light up straight away and stay lit up and do nothing else :(

I cant figure out what happened, because i put the old RAM back in and it still wont work and the PC was definately working before i put the new RAM in.

Motherboard = Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR
Old RAM = 2 x 256mb GeIL PC4000 / New RAM 2 x 512mb Corsair PC3200 Value RAM
CPU = AMD Athlon 64 3200 Winchester - Socket 939
Graphics card = XFX GeForce 6600 GT

It looks the same as if the BIOS on the motherboard have messed up , but i dont know for sure , it could be the CPU or GFX Card ???

I dont have any other socket 939 setups to test the parts on otherboards so i've asked DFI to send me a new BIOS chip to see if that will get the motherboard to boot again .

Can anyone offer and help or advice with this ?

actually, having had this board, the LEDS start out ALL lite up. They then one by one go out. This is what it means in each order.

**** CPU Detect
*** RAM Detect
** VGA Detect
* OS Boot

So if thats the order they go in , then it looks as if mabye its the CPU thats died ..

I was looking to buy a new chip anyway the Venice or San Diego but i wanted to sell my Winchester on ebay to make up some of the money.

Ohh we'll i'll have to just bin it and start saving up, thats if it is definately the CPU .

I was looking at this chips :-

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm 1MB L2 (939 Pin) - Retail
Manf. Model: ADA3700DAA5BN @ £229.13 or $ 418.669 USD

or

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice 90nm (939 Pin) - Retail
Manf. Model: ADA3800DAA4BP @ £249.01 or $455.234 USD

Could anyone recommend one or the other ?

get the san diego or wait for x2's.

i'd also be sure it is in fact dead. doesn't make sense to me. did you have to remove the cpu HSF to get at the ram? have you re-seated it to check? when you removed the ram did you reset bios to default before clearing?

I have had the the whole motherboard out of the case with just the bare essentials installed CPU/RAM/GFX Card nothing else.

I didnt have to touch the CPU when installing the RAM but i have since reseated it and had a look at it just to check everything was the way it should be but it still didnt work.

I have took the battery out and reset the CMOS jumper countless times, and also tried using an old "but in perfect working order" PCI graphics card to see if i could get it to start the monitor but still nothing .

I have also tried 4 different kinds of RAM in several combinations , still nothing .

It just turns on the FANs and the 4 LED's and stays like that .:thumbsdown:

EDIT: I cant imagine what the RAM done to it , but i was thinking if it is the CPU it may have something to do with the AMD64 chips integrated Memory controller , mabye the RAM done some damage to the chip through that , 1 of the modules may have been faulty ? could this be possible ?
