Insert DVD and Comp Freezes.

I have a Sony CRX320E. It reads DVD and CD and writes CD. I am running Windows XP SP2. Here is systems specs:

Pentium4 3.2ghz Prescott
Asus Mobo
2 WD 80gig harddrives
6800gt with lastest drivers
1gig corsair ram
Antec 430 Tru PS

My problem is whenever I insert a DVD into my drive it starts to read the CD and then the comp freezes. If I push the eject button on the drive the comp restarts. I does not do this when I insert a CD and it burns CDs fine.

I tried taking the drive back and exchanging it (new one still does it.) I tried reinstalling, installing new firmware, taking off autoplay, and installing newer drivers. It must be a conflict or something.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks a lot!

Questions:

Has it EVER worked?
Does it play pressed DVDs?
Is DMA enabled (for whatever its worth)?

I bought a Lite-On combo drive from the Egg a year ago - it did the same thing. Never worked ever, for DVDs. A refund RMA is what you may want to consider.

I bought one and it didnt work. Then I returned it and got another one and it does the same thing.

What do you mean "pressed?"

How do you enable DMA?

Thanks

Seems like you checked the BIOS for the DMA setting.

Do this instead:
Go to Device Manager, look up the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the list.
Choose the channel you've installed your drive on. You'll have the DMA setting available on the Advanced Settings tab.
While you're at it, you may as well check the settings for the channel your HDD is on (unrelated, but worth checking).

Okay I checked that and the CD player is on DMA 2. The HDD are both of 5.

I am going to try the drive in my other comp and see what happens.

BTW do you have to set the region for the DVD player for it to work? Mine is not specified.
