Insect Repellant for the home via plugging some contraption into your wall outlet

Anyone heard of this? Saw an informercial briefly on this and was curious if this was legit or if there was a legit product that did something similar to it. I despise insects, it's a phobia of mine and i have a feeling my new ever so ghetto apt i'll be moving into will have a nice friendly bunch of insects to contend with.
oh yeah maybe theres something better and more effective to pest control? yeah yeah, not very manly but really i think its psychological for me.

You know, over the years I have seen these things in mail order catalogs but I have always wondered if they ever worked. I never saw the informercial but I assume these are similar units.

One time, I bought an electronic flea repellant for my dog which operated on one of those watch batteries. It didn't work at all.

It is a device that operates by emiting ultrasonic sound waves which cannot be heard by a human ear but is highly irritating to inscets. I remember using such a device to repel mosquitoes, it worked quite well.
