Insanely high pings while trying to join servers

Not sure if this is the place to post this, but I'm out of ideas. I've been trying to play the same game with my friends that we've been playing for months (7 Days to Die), but after a major update they just released, myself and many others are joining servers with pings in the thousands which then steadily rise to the 20k to 30k mark before immediately dropping down to the 50s and 60s where they should be.

Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but for this particular game, we run a server manager with an auto-kick feature for high pings. We need this to run due to the high amount of people using cheat engine to spawn explosives and destroy our bases while we are gone and sadly, 99 times out of 100 when someone has destroyed our base with spawned-in items, they were from China and had 300+ pings. Running auto-kick has kept us cheater-free for over a month now.

So, with auto-kick running, I can't even join my own server because my ping is in the thousands when I join then it rises to around 20k and immediately drops to where it actually is. I've spoken to the devs and they assure me the problem is on my end. With that in mind, I've checked my ping in other online games, I've ran several speed tests pinging from the same city as where our server is located (Chicago), and I've contacted my ISP to see if there are any reported outages or problems in my area (which took half an hour - thanks Comcast). The only thing I can think of is maybe someone in my neighborhood is using my wireless but I don't believe that's the case. However, I don't know how to view the whole network site map to see if someone is leeching off my net.

Does anyone have any ideas regarding this?

Edit: I'm aware this game is still in Alpha, but I'd like to explore all avenues just in case the problem is on my end.

If multiple players have this problem on the same server at the same time, then you can conclude:
1) it's not your home network, nor your local connection (cable, dsl, fibre, etc).
2) it's probably not your ISP's problem. (unless everyone is on the same ISP).
3) it could be the network of the hosting company where your server is. or their ISP.
4) most likely it's the server

You mention 2 things. a) There was recently a new patch. b) You run an auto-kick feature for high pings.
Is that "auto-kick feature" part of the game itself ? Or is it an addon (aka plugin, aka 3rd party software) ? It could very well be that your addon is not compatible with the newer servercode. You'll need the programmer of that feature to release a new compatible version. Of couse, this is just speculation, you'll need to check it yourself. (E.g. if you disable the feature, do you still get high pings at login ?). If you have other 3rd party addons running, you might wanna check those too.

I'm not running the server manager, my friend is the one running it. I'm simply trying to connect to the server.

Also, it's not just our server where people are experiencing this issue. Given the game has a server/lobby style multiplayer, there are hundreds of servers to choose from and many players have reported the same problem across many different servers. BlueFangSolutions hosts most of the servers, so I guess it could also be a problem on their end.

The best way to find out if it is you or some other link in the chain of pings would be to use tracert on the server you are connecting to.

You could call your ISP for a new IP address and just tell them it is for gaming.

And how would that solve things ????

You could just as well sacrifice a goat on a pyre, and hope it'll improve pings.

People get assigned a new IP randomly by by their ISP.

Back in the MID 90's I remember people having to change their ip address because the previous owner ran either a server or KAZAA and computers from around the world would keep trying to connect to him all day every day no matter what he was doing on his pc. So days weeks months can go by and things can seem bad if you were assigned a DIRTY IP used by a previous customer who did those kinds of things. Back in the early days of google I remember sometimes people who would teach themselves Windows server service would sometimes accidently back their C drive indexed by google and able to go through their pc by searching for " index of c : \windows

Or using the search terms found at "Johnny I hack stuff website"

So no. No magic involved. Just common sense.

That was 20 years ago. I doubt there is still that much broken software around.

But more importantly, the guy didn't have this problem for a long time, and suddenly it popped up. So it is unlikely his IP address has been "dirty" all this time. And also, other players have the exact same problem at the exact same time. So it is also unlikely it is a local problem, or a problem at the local ISP.
