In case you didn't know or didn't care, I live in Newtown, PA which is about 45 minutes south of Philadelphia. Yesterday I had work from 2-9 and it was hot as all hell (something like 104) and the weatherman on my local news said that there was a slight (20%) chance of rain and a passing thunderstorm. Well, he was right.... but not really.
We got rain alright, torrential rain with wind gusts up to 50mph. I was driving home going about 20mph the whole and not being able to see more than 5 feet in front of me. I think I dodged about 4 downed trees and 2 downed power lines. Oh, and power outtages? We got those too. Power outtages in a HUGE radius of Philadelphia. Just about all the traffic lights in my small 5 mile commute were out, which made for more fun. The power was out from about 8:30PM to 1:00PM the next day, and I got away lucky. At the origin of the original power outtages, there were somewhere around 450,000 homes without power... the worst outtage in PECO history. At 1:00PM today (when my power came back) there were still about 275,000 homes without power and some are not expected to get it back until the weekend.
So in conclusion, the weather went from "Sunny with a slight chance of rain in the afternoon" to torrential rain with 50mph wind gusts and severe power outtages. Goof fvcking game weatherman. /rant
EDIT: I was wrong, predicting the weather is quite difficult apparently. I really had no idea with all the fancy equipment and technology and such... Well my rant is moot then, but still a good story anyhow 😛
