Aren't we going just a little too far here?

I can't believe how people are reacting to the date today. Its not just the religious right, but they are a large part of it. You also have the media blowing this all out of proporation. Then you have satanists doing their part. Its just insane.

On top of all that, just because my birthday is today, I actually got into a discussion with someone at a grocery store about how I should be afraid of today because I was born 34 years ago on this day and the antichrist is coming. So much for me making small talk to the cashier about today being my birthday.

I guess it just suprises me how people go off the deep end on this kind of thing. With the media fueling the fire though, I also expected that.

Your thoughts?
 
My thoughts? People enjoy feeling scared, and will create circumstances that scare them, such as the belief that today is somehow 'evil'.
 
I say we beat up the next person who talks about 6/6/2006 and it's methphysical implications. Are you with me?

I don't get it. The day is not 666. It is 6/6/06. Or if you prefer 06/6/06. But it's not even that, it's 06/6/2006. I mean whoopty F-ing do, there is three 6's in the date along with several zero's and a two. Who's bright idea was it to ignore all the numbers except the three 6's and make a day out of it? LAME.
 
Everyone thinks 666 has something to do with the devil.

I am in complete agreement. To most people, fear (and its resulting hysteria and adrenaline rush) is a more powerful and addictive drug than heroin, and certainly more widely abused.


Today has ZERO religious significance. The calendars have changed quite a bit since John of Patmos wrote his revelation (not that he was even referring to a date in the first place).

Wow, you really believe everyone born in 1906 is dead?

Note: of the >50,000 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centenarian ) americans who are over one hundred, non ove them turned 100 this year? seems highly unlikely.
