Hey guys, I'm going to be upgrading my system (specs below). I don't see the benefits in me stepping up to AM2 at this time, but do want to get up to dual core. I'm looking around the 250 - 300 dollar range. I plan on overclocking what ever I get, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of talk on current 939 chips and their steppings/overclockability.

What is my best option for the 250-300 price range. I see Newegg has the 4800+ and Opteron 180 in that range. Does anyone know how the steppings are for them right now, or who has the better steppings?

Thanks for any help guys.

I built the system in my sig around a year ago.

Not that much talk in 939s anymore.. hard to find item now... if you want oc, get c2d.. if you dont want to get new board + memory... opteron...

C2D is my next step if AMD doesn't pull something out of their hat other than throwing 3 processors on a board (hope thats not the next step). I have to replace my sons MB, so I'm going to put my Opteron 146 @ FX57 in his new MB and jump to DC in mine. I do a lot of DVD authoring and transcoding on mine, so I think its time to go dual core.

Yah, get an Opteron 170 for now. The good thing about the opterons is that they come with the heatpipe CPU HSF, and they can overclock really well. Save the rest of the money for a future upgrade.
