I have started putting together my new rig, so far I have already purchased:

EPOX 9NPA+ SLI
1GB Corsair XMS3200 DDR400 Dual Channel Kit
Allied Tricolor 500W Power Supply & Dynex case

I am needing some input on where to go from here. I want to play all the latest games (BF2, Fear, CS Source, etc. ) on full blast. I have about $600 to spend to finish it off.

My original plan was for a AMD 3700+, XFX 6800GS XXX edition, WD Cavier 250GB 16MB cache SATA II, and another 1GB dual channel kit ( Comes in at about $600).

For a gaming rig, would I be better off with an Opteron 165 Dual core or an X2 3800+; instead of the 3700+ and extra Gig of ram?

Thanks for the advice

4x512MB will work, but there's a performance hit, and it's best to avoid if possible. 2x1GB is ideal.

Western Digital WD2500KS is a great performer.

Opteron 165 is the powar.

From what im reading on the Opteron it seems like the way to go.

Anything will beat what Im on right now,

AMD Thunderbird @1.1
GeForce2mx 400 32MB
Gigabyte GA-7ZX w / 256MB ram

Had it since 2000
