My new System.....

ATI X1800 XT
EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra
Fortron 450 Power Supply
Seagate 250GB 7200.8 SATA Hard Drive
2 GB Corsair Value RAM
Situation... had the above system built by local tech.
After i tried running 3dmark05 and several games, discovered it would freeze/hardlock everytime.
I RMA'd the video card. New card did the same thing. brought pc back to the tech to troubleshoot... the following is his email explaination of what he found..
"It was a combination of software, utilities, drivers and BIOS settings. Basically had to go through everything, test and adjust accordingly. Even the ATI settings screen was a culprit. The NForce Network Manager was also a culprit.
Whenever you run any ATI settings control software you will need to reboot before playing any games or it will freeze (cti.exe process is the culprit)
Do not install any new nvidia network drivers or the issue will come back. It's not the driver but rather the support software and utilities which are bundled and installed on a simple driver install. Believe it or not but a slimmed down version of Apache website server also gets installed, probably for proxy services and is a really performance hindrance."
Anyone else have any trouble with the epox ultra board and ati x1800xt?
