hey guys,

i recently built a nice desktop that i'll use mainly for gaming. im not a hardcore gamer, meaning i wont be playing games for an extended period of time, but that is what i'll be using my desktop for as i'll be using my laptops primarily for other tasks.

I have decided against getting a CRT because of the size and bulkiness. also in my research i understand that an lcd is not well recommended for gaming. But i would still like to get a 19inch flat panel monitor to use.

any suggestions for a monitor with these parameters. so far, i've looked at the samsang 910t and the benq fp851.

Please provide any helpful info as i try to make a decision

NEC or Samsung, more expensive than the value brands but worth it. Had both CRT and LCDs from those two brands and all had a razor sharp picture.

I've used a couple samsung 19inch lcd's. They're great for normal use but suck for games (192N, 910T). On the other hand, I have a samsung 172N (25ms response time) that is perfect for games, no ghosting at all in the fastest game I play, UT2K4. Newegg has a benq 19inch silver lcd in your price range, forget the model, check the reviews.

Yep, thats the one Im looking and the reviews seem fine. Its my top choice at the moment, just here looking for suggestions from people who have had any experience with 19 inch LCD monitors that have an acceptable gaming performance, the samsung 910T was my second choice, but based on your input and some less-favorable reviews, i am no longer considering it.

Does anyone have any opinions on the 19Inch Benq? or other 19inch screens?

Thanks

BenQ FP931 Newegg says it is only VGA. But it has DVI. You just need to buy a DVI cable for 10 bucks. These are spose to be great for gaming too. I was considering one of these until I jumped on one of those Dell 2001fp deals.
Its got 16ms response time and again you can look right on the BenQ website to varify that it has DVI.

Are you looking at the wrong model. Benq FP951 which is 50 dollars more is listed with a DVI input on newegg. Thats the one im looking at.

No I'm not. the 951 has a response time of 25ms not 16ms like the 931.
Here is BenQ's product link to the 931 stating DVI and 16MS response time.link Also if you look at the customer reviews they all say it has a DVI port it just doesn't include a DVI cable.

Cool,

what do you think about the Dell2001FP?

just stumbled upon it now, it seems to have good reviews although its not very nice looking and it is out of my estimated price range. But i could budge based on how good it is...Dell has it for 680 today?

If you fear the taxes ebuyer.com has the same thing for 20$ more. Enjoy.

it was 609 yesterday. (Correction: It is still 609 until today 11PM CST)

edit: it's still alive, I saw a coupon on apex's site http://www.gotapex.com/

double edit: As to your question, it's very nice, bright and good for games. (but even with that fp951, I saw no ghosting in UT2k4, I think ghosting is noticeable in dark environments).

Wow thats a great deal for a 12ms monitor. I have not gotten my 2001FP yet so I can't really comment. I got it on that 40% off $2500 deal so I picked up two of them and a dimension 8400. Which I will be selling to my dad for cheap. If I like it I will keep it and I'f I don't I'll sell it. From the reviews I think I will like it though.

JBT if it's your first LCD, you'll probably like them. I saw that deal last week as well but I didn't have sufficient funds... :) One's already awesome but two is just insane. Have fun with a dual setup or selling both the system +1LCD so you get that other one for $100.

I heard ebay will be flooded with those $550 2001fps from that deal.

Would it be a good idea for me to just bite the bullet and move up an extra 200 to buy the Dell UltraSharp 2001FP?

Depends on you, if you can wait another year, you'll save an extra 100 or so. It depends on what you want now and if the 2001 fp is what you're aiming for, go and get it so you won't have regrets. :)

But the benq 937 is also a sweet monitor.
