everyone keeps saying the GK104 will:

a) be same or slightly faster than 580
b) that it ll use 225w TPD
c) that it ll cost around 299$

^ however isnt all that from those chiphell rumors?

The same rumors chiphell believe is spread by nvidia viral marketeers, to keep people from buying AMD cards.

Pie in face, if when the GK104 releases its not 225w, 299$ and faster than 580, and it turns out it was just nvidia guys makeing rumors.

Where is the freaking 3dmark11 scores the game benchmarks...is this stuff vaporware i mean radeon has its 7000 series in gear and all they offer is more leaks just perfect.:awe:

I personally think almost every shred of info we've gotten about Kepler is either completely bogus or mostly speculation. NVIDIA is pretty good about plugging leaks when they want to. IIRC, about a week before the launch of the GTX 580 with pretty widespread availability people were still unsure if it was real or not.

If this gpu can deliver gtx580 performance at around $300 it will most def steal the thunder of the 7950 and 7970.

If that is the case it probably would steal a lot of thunder from the 7950, but honestly given what $300 gets you now this really needs to be the case or we really aren't making much progress.

On the NVIDIA side of things for $300 you can easily get into a GTX 560 Ti 448 core that with a a little bit of overclocking will already nip at the 580's heels. Shop around a little and you could even pick up a GTX 570 for close to $300. The same is true on the AMD side of things where you can pick up a 6970 after rebates for very close to $300 or go with a 6950 for quite a bit less.

I don't see any reason why the TDP would have to be equal to the number of connectors in any case. TDP is thermal design power, not maximum possible PCI input power. If a card had a TDP of 160W, it would still need 2x6pin PCI connectors (or one 8pin), but that doesn't mean it's TDP is 225W. The 6950 has a 200W TDP and 2x6pin connectors and the 6870 has a 151W TDP, and also has 2x6pin connectors. If one of these goofy trolls had looked at a prototype 6870 and started spouting off that it was going to be a 225W part, it'd be the same thing as the GK104.

Lets agree on this. There really isn't a whole lot of room between a gtx560ti and a gtx580. Up until recently, Nvidia felt there was only room for 1 card - the gtx570. The gtx570 is squarely between a gtx580 and gtx560ti, agreed?

If the GK104 is the GF104/GF114 successor, which I think it is and I also think most reasonable techies also agree that it is, wouldn't it be a rather huge disappointing failure if it can only match the gtx570? Unless Nvidia decided to completely forgo performance entirely and focus exclusively on efficiency, Nvidia would be giving themselves a rather large black eye. Agreed?

Yes, it would have to be the GTX 580 with tweaks on 28nm, so higher clocks and OC headroom. Slotting that into the $300 price bracket would be within expectations. But then again, going by some comments on the 7970 I should be demanding GTX 570 SLI performance for $300-350.

Right from the start it was claimed by nVidia they would do a bottom up to avoid problems they had with 40nm, somehow this message was lost when AMD debuted the HD7970, simply to do damage control as nVidia had nothing until April to counter with. Remember apple`s order (The kepler/Fermi chip shrink for MacBook?) below is an example of that.. Don’t expect desktop cards till April/May

Equal or a bit better than the GTX570 would be about right for a mid range card succeeding the GTX560. They have to leave some headroom for the cards succeeding the GTX560Ti, GTX570 and the GTX580.

that's only assuming nVidia's flagship parts really wouldn't be any better than the 7970, which is highly unlikely

there's plenty of headroom to be had if nVidia doesn't initially bumble with Kepler like they did with Fermi
