Hahahaha! That is awesome. How did you spot that anyway? Tineye?

No, I was actually just looking at the 470/480 review yesterday when discussing with Balla in another thread. I'd seen the picture 6 hours before this was posted. Just good timing. :)

ZOMG, nvidia trying to pass off the original Fermi as a new architecture.

Will these desperate acts never cease?

If this gpu can deliver gtx580 performance at around $300 it will most def steal the thunder of the 7950 and 7970.

I don't see why the expectation is set this low. A stock gtx460 carried ~gtx285 performance at release, improved beyond that with drivers, and given that heavily overclocked factory gtx460's were the norm... Then there was the gtx560ti, it is generally 40-50% faster than a gtx285.

So what's my point? Nvidia's 40nm performance chip beat it's last gen flagship. I will be disappointed if GK104 isn't faster in frame-rate-playable situations than a gtx580.

But GF104/114 has 50% more Transistors. So it's not really fair to compare booth.

But i expect that nVidia will introduce a Midrange Chip with GTX580 performance but only the power of the GTX460. Even a shrink of GF114 with 40% higher clocks can do that.

if is nvidia itself, not some fanboy....kepler will take way more than 6 month to appear

Hehe, you're actually buying it aren't you...

You actually believe Nvidia is trying to pass off it's old Fermi Die as the new Kepler die... Really now. XD

Come on now, that isn't too silly given the wooden Fermi boards they tried to pass off as real.

1) Nvidia wouldnt "leak" a die shot that was the 480 and claim it was a kepler.

RavenSEAL: 225w? Jeezzz

2) that is a rumor from chiphell, that they claim is fake.
As is the price tag its supposed to have and its performance.

In short no one will know anything nvidia shows its hand.

I think you are correct my first post was mostly speculation but for example the gtx560ti has a 170w tdp the gtx570 has 219 i believe so it HAS to be gtx580 or better performance as anything less will be nearly pointless and after all this time all we get is die shots and apparent leaks including pricing...wow.

Where is the freaking 3dmark11 scores the game benchmarks...is this stuff vaporware i mean radeon has its 7000 series in gear and all they offer is more leaks just perfect.:awe:

maybe he knew it was the exact same image of GF100 and just assumed GK104 was merely a die shrink :p

Yeah but that would only apply to an optical shrink, i.e. from a full node to a half node (Most of the layout can stay the same). Going to 40nm (half node of 45nm) to 28nm (half node of 32nm) would require a re-layout i.e. the die shot itself would look different.

If it's just GTX 580 performance then it's a fail. I expect a die shrunk 580 on 28nm, which would mean higher clocks and more OC headroom. $300, you have until Monday NVIDIA. You must prove the 7970 is an underwhelming waste of money in a timely fashion.

That's a good point, however I expect a 225W 28nm chip to beat the GTX 580 handily.

This whole thread is fail. It doesn't serve any purpose.

The title of this thread is: "nvidia gk104 die design leaked + price.. not so impressive"

That's a picture of the Fermi die and the price is rumored at $299 which sounds spot on for Nvidia's performance midrange card. Why the OP thinks it's already unimpressive based on so little information.

The GK104 won't pull 225 watts at it's stock speeds. Everyone keeps saying this. 225 watts is only referring to the maximum power draw based on the PCIe spec and 2 six-pin PCIe power connectors.

TDP has always meant maximum possible draw and not gaming power consumption. The only exception was with the GTX 470 and 480 when Nvidia's reported TDP was the typical gaming power use. 225W compared to the 219W TDP of the GTX 570 suggests that this 28nm chip could perform very well. Of course, there's other factors at play here including how Nvidia does with 28nm this early. Keep in mind that the GTX 5xx series was a very mature 40nm.

Exactly, and in this case if these leaks are accurate about GK104's power connetions, then it's PCB will officially support power draws of up to 225 watts. Whatever the best GF104 based card will be rated right around (possible even lower, if Charlie is to be believed) the same TDP as the gtx560ti and also draw (if not slightly lower) around the same power. If Nvidia's second fastest chip hit 225w under normal use, then they might as well pack up their consumer GPU division and focus 100% on the professional space and tegra.
