Can anyone please help me? There is something weird going on inside my computer.

I had posted this on the "technical support" forum, but no one could help me. So how about one of you guys on the "highly technical" forum taking a shot at it?

It seems to be a fairly easy problem, but I have tried a multitude of fixes, everything you might think it SHOULD be, but none of which have worked. Here's the situation, it's quite lengthy:

If I type into my browser, www.paypal.com, the page will NOT appear, if I delete the www, the index page comes up, however, when I click on ANY link on that page, I get the dreaded "Page cannot be displayed".

Here's a simliar result:

I have this distributor web site for a health product that the company gives to you. When I go to the index page (I cannot use www or it doesn't work), all appears fine, except no graphics are displayed. As with PayPal.com, when I click on ANY link, I get "Page cannot be displayed".

There is another health product distributor who sells many different products, but uses the same graphics that are on my web site and his do not display for me either.

I visit hundreds of web sites weekly and am experiencing problems with only the 2 above mentioned sites, as far as I can tell. When I have someone else go to these sites on their computer, they have no problem. Everything works fine.

I just spoke with a friend and he has one particular site that the graphics don't display for him either, but yet they do for me on my computer. He has a similiar problem as I do, but just with that one site only. What in the world is going on? Can someone please help??? Thank you to who ever can solve this weird problem for me. If you can, you should be considered a true genious!

s t a b is banned because of the dorks in off-topic replying to every post with "s t a b him/her" a few weeks ago.

Hi,

I do have Windows Xp and I did go to Run and copied and pasted "iconfig /flushdns". An alert window came up saying that "Windows cannot find iconfig".

Did you send me the correct spelling of "iconfig /flushdns"? If not, will you please send it again. Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it alot.

Steve,

Thanks for replying.

I tried the "ipconfig/flushdns" and it did not work. Any other suggestions, please!

You tried it and it didn't run, or you tried it and it ran successfully, but didn't fix your problem?

Who is your isp? Have you contacted them about the problem? Their tech support probably isn't great, but it seems like it may be their problem, and they may have heard of it before.

Have you tried a different browser?

Try "ping www.paypal.com" in the run window. Does this work?

If you can, use a different ISP (get a friend to let you use their AOL account, or something.) Still have the problem?

Are you running any strange software, like a firewall? Disable the firewall and anti-virus and try it. In fact, disable anything you can.

Delete all of your temporary internet files, and possibly your cookies. (Not sure what deleting your cookies will do. I think it's innocuous, although it will log you out of anything you're permanently logged into, like anandtech forums.) Restart your browser. Still doesn't work?

I have no idea what the problem is, but maybe, possibly, one of those steps will help you isolate it. Let us know how it goes.

No you don't. Windows isn't as picky as unix.

C:\Documents and Settings\Chris>ipconfig/flushdns

Windows IP Configuration

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

If you use a browser other than IE, it'll tell you what actually failed :)
