It's probably good if you really really need a light. It's cheap but I'm not sure how good it is. However I might suggest a better light. Try www.flashlightreviews.com for flashlight ratings and suggestions. Get a better light if you want to actually use it.

Regular leds are not as good as incandescent light. Luxeon leds are a lot better than regular leds.

Does anyone know if maglite make led flashlites yet?

I had a little led flashlight and it's great, but I always reach for my maglite first.

They're LED cluster lights Vastly inferior to the Luxeon market that sprang up since a few years ago when someone decided to put one of Luxeon's new 1 watters in a Mag.

As far as I know, Mag has shown no evicence of even employing engineers. The last "new" consumer product that they came out with was the Solitaire, and the patent has already expired. They DID come out with the MagCharger several years ago, but that still used NiCad batteries (yikes). Their most recent innovation was to take the same old junk, and put different colored finishes on it -- and that was about ten years ago.

They DO employ an army of lawyers, though. And if your like looks too much like theirs, they will sue you at the drop of a hat. In fact, one of the slogans of one of the other flashlight companies is "Innovate, don't litigate." Mag is the Microsoft of the flashlight world.

So, in general, I avoid this company entirely. There are several other companies making great products -- Surefire, Streamlight, Pelican, Princeton Tec, Brinkmann, etc. I have spent over $200 on flashlights in the last two years, and Mag did not see one cent.


They are missing the revolution. I have a light that can easily hide in the palm of my hand that compares favorably to their 2D lights. They are sadly behind the times. The world of flashlights has been revolutionized by the LED, and the 123 battery. Mag has done nothing with either of them.

One great place to check out is BrightGuy. I do admit that I seldom buy from places like WalMart. I cary an Arc LSL on my belt every day. Too bad the company went under. But if you like top-notch "every day carry" lights, check out HDS systems. You can also usually find Princeton Tec lights at specialty camping/hiking stores.

*EDIT* If you want a great light for a great price, check out the Streamlight Twin Task 2L. It takes a pair of lithium 123 batteries. If you catch a sale, you can grab one for under $30 (check BrightGuy, linked above). Never buy 123 batteries from Walmart. You can order a 12-pack directly from Surefire for well under $20 shipped. That makes 123 lights as cheap to operate as D cell lights, and a lot smaller too!
