Innocent girl needs computer help! Save me oh great computer nerd!

Okay, so maybe not so innocent! but I do need help! I've just re- hooked up my computer, first time by myself, I might add! Now my speakers are'nt working...yes they are plugged in! Anyone have any ideas!

Are they powered speakers? If so, check that they are plugged into the power outlet....

This gets my vote. Common mistake, especially with the nearly impossible to see hyroglyphics they use (because there's less light in the back of the PC and the cord is never long enough to plug the speakers in and see what you are doing).

But, the answer to that is to play an audio file and just plug in to each jack until you find the right one.

Make sure that the volume is high enough (soft control in windows).

Also, make sure that the drivers are properly configured.

That being said... how about give us your computer specs (Hardware and Drivers) so we have something to work with?

Go to control panel, system, device manager, then hardware. Look for any exclamation points. You can also check the sounds and audio devices under control panel to check sound volume, settings, etc.....

And anyway, working on computers is man's work. You need to get back to that kitchen......

You will find plenty of takers on that one here.

As Jmman stated, check the device settings for your audio.
Is the audio embeeded (built into) the motherboard, or is it a seperate card. If seperate card, ensure that it is seated properly.

What sound card, motherboard and operating system are you utilizing? PM me if you cannot figure it out, as I always forget what TS threads I've read when I'm at work the next morning. If you PM me, please include what I've asked for.

No worries.... i'll help ya.

Were the sound card drivers installed correctly in the first place? It may be worthwhile finding what soundcard is in your rig, then re-installing the drivers. Ckeck the output from the soundcard by trying some Direct X Diagnostic tests. (in run, type dxdiag ) You could also try pluging some headphones into the soundcard jack, instead of the speakers, to make sure they are not at fault.

Onboard and Addin card? If so, make sure the onboard is disabled. You could try uninstalling drivers, changing pci slots and reinstalling. Sometimes the IRqs can be the problems here.
