No, it's "Someone made a mistake and falsely imprisoned me for a week in a jail filled with criminals and lowlifes... please compensate me for my time and anguish."

If you've never been to jail, you just cannot understand. It really sucks.
This wasn't Los Angeles, Cook, Harris (TX), or Fulton counties, any borough of NY, and it sure as hell wasn't Maricopa county. This was Nebraska. She's a 17-yr-old female.

Trust me. She'll be just fine.

But more than likely she'll wind up with a half million dollar settlement and the sense of entitlement contributing to the wussification of America will continue.

Her age is totally irrelevant.

She was charged as an adult and therefore she should be thought of in all aspects as an adult. It is pitiful that you want to judge people based on their age.

Additionally she very well could be in school and suffered academically, she could have a job that she lost, missed appointments or whatever. How about we throw you in jail for a few weeks and see if it doesn't put a wrench in your life.

Yes, mistakes happen and this was a mistake, however regardless if it is an innocent mistake or not it should not be trivialized.

Suing is one thing but all the money in the world is not going to buy her good name back. Some people are always going to hold her as suspect. Sad but true. I know this has happened before but I?m too lazy to provide proof.

Uh huh. And I'd bet money if it was you instead of her, you'd be screaming for people's heads to roll.

But you'll never admit to that... and you've never been to jail.

So what if I've never been to jail? Is being in jail so commonplace now? *shrug*

But if I was in her spot, absolutely I would be pissed off and hurt. But I was innocent and knew it. They (the popo) realized I was innocent and let me go. My parents are getting their money back. I'll be the most popular girl in town and will have tons of myspace adds to get to. I'll never do anything wrong ever to get my ass thrown in jail.

This victim mentality is so absurd when it was clearly a legitimate case of mistaken identity.

no it was not a malicious act. this was a breakdown of the system.

but she spent a week in jail. I know damn well if i was imprisoned for a week on a mistake damn right i would be seuing them.

should she get rich? no. but they should pay for the false imprisonment.

You are responsible for your mistakes. Intent or malice is not required. If you make a mistake, no matter how honest it is, and someone else is harmed, you are responsible.

My point about jail is you cannot possibly understand how horrible it is until you've been there.

And she WAS a victim. No "mentality" here.

I guess this is the backlash from frivolous lawsuits. People become so jaded they can't even recognize a valid one.

After an annonynous tip. If it wasn't for that she'd probably still be sitting in jail.

It's like that one X-Files episode were there two exact Kathy Griffins and when they were near each other, everyone would get into a fight.

It was one of the more original episodes they had.

A lot. I never said it was no big deal. I never said I would never do anything to go to jail.

I said she'll get over it. I said that the cops and prosecutors did their job correctly. I said something to the effect of never doing anything to go to jail as PART of a paragraph that would I feel would likely be from this 17-year-old's mouth (reading comprehension FTW again). I said that everything that happened to her was not malicious but an honest mistake from a witness of the crime. I said that it's a shame that so many feel such entitlement. I said I can't stand people who sue each others for stupid ****** like this. I said she doesn't deserve $10,000. I said that this is an example of how entitlement is leading to the wussification of America.

stupid ****** like this? SHE WAS IN JAIL FOR A WEEK OVER NOTHING.

yes it was a mistake. but they need to pay for the mistake.

if it was just her getting arrested and then released fine. but the fact she was put in jail (adult one at that) for a week is diffrent.

you may not have said the exact words "this is no big deal", however your attitude makes it pretty clear that's how you feel about it

i did misinterpret the never doing anything to go to jail comment, and they did do their jobs correctly with no malicious intent, however this is still a huge fvck-up, and i think she should be entitled to some sort of compensation...whether or not it was intentional, it's still false imprisonment, at an age where legally she shouldn't even be in jail in the first place...and you have no idea what happened to her in that jail, there's some fvcked up things that go on back there...you assume because it wasn't a maximum security facility that it was a cakewalk, however that could very well not be the case...it's still jail where they keep criminals that are considered too dangerous to be in society with the rest of us

and considering you don't know her or what she dealt with while in there, i don't see how you can have a basis for your argument that "she'll get over it"

It's hard to believe she had no alibi for the time of the crime. If she had a solid alibi, she should not have spent a day in jail. If that was missed or messed up by the investigators, she should get paid for her time and damages.

So I take it you do know what she went through in there. Are you saying she should sue for something more?

And since when shouldn't 17-year-olds be in jail if they've been arrested and arraigned? Surely, you're not saying that just because someone is under the age of 18 they should never be arrested.
