Inno3d FX5600 on ASUS A7N266-VM big problems!

Hi,

Does anyone know of any issues with the GeForce FX5600 non-ultra and nforce1 motherboards, in particular with ANY revision of the ASUS A7N266-VM?

Im having problems with my A7N266-VM and inno3d FX5600 128MB.The system goes blank or has corrupted display even in 2d desktop use when I load both the nForce drivers (any version till 2.45) and the detonator drivers (any version till 52.16). If I load the detonators alone, without installing the nforce drivers, particularly the GART drivers,it seems the FX5600 functions normally except that its in PCI mode (AGP-PCI mode in control panel) instead of AGP 4x that the nForce supports.

I never had any problems with any of the previous cards ive used with this mobo, and ive used a leadtek GF2 Ti 64mb and Inno3d GF4 Ti4200 64mb 8x AGP card before.

Any ideas. I've RMA'd the FX5600 twice..and each one has the same exact problem.

I'd try this:

1. Uninstall nForce drivers and Dets.
2. Install nForce drivers. (I use the ones on Asus' site, as newer ones from nVidia give me sound drop-outs in games.)
3. Uninstall the display drivers from the nForce suite via Add/Remove.
4. Reboot, cancel any Windows New Hardware Found/Install prompts, then Shut Down and install the 5600.
5. Boot, cancel any Windows Install prompts, and install the latest Dets (just for graphics, not an nForce suite).

That should work, but let us know if it doesn't. Following steps 3-5 worked for me when going from the onboard video to a Radeon 9100, so they should hopefully work for you.

btw, ive tried starting from a complete clean xp reformat, with the 5600 installed before reformatting/re-installing...still no go..

I've had problems with a Albatron FX5600 Non Ultra. This card would work for all Open GL games but locks up in ALL direct X applications such as dxdiag test and dx games. I never found a solution and returned the card. Am now back to GF4 Ti series.

If returning the card for a refund is an option, I highly recommend it. Considering that you already have a Inno3D Ti4200 128MB.

Jag, I'm using a -VM, but with a Radeon 9100. As I said, though, I had literally zero problems going from the onboard nVidia video to the add-in ATi 9100 via the steps I outlined above. Your problem may just be the order in which you install the software, thus my suggestion.

As a 4200 is, on average, on par with a 5600, I'd consider just returning the 5600 (if possible) and saving up for a bigger upgrade. If you want to stick with nVidia, $220 will net you a 5900 at NewEgg (straight up) or BestBuy (after rebate and taxes)--a very fast card, and a better value than a $200 5700U. If you're willing to try ATi and will definitely buy Half-Life 2 when it comes out, consider a $180 9600XT from Axiontech. (Normally I'd recommend a $250 9800 as competition to the 5900, but they appear to be sold out everywhere.)
