I recently bought a Canon Pixma TS9020 because a couple sites had me convinced there were drivers for XP Pro...which do not exist, so its a $70 loss for me. Now I have to buy another inkjet printer, but determined not to make the same mistake twice, so I'm asking for help to pick one of these:
Epson Expression ET-2700
" Expression ET-2600
" Expression Photo XP-8500
" Stylus C88+
Brother MFC-J870DW
" MFC-J680DW
I really just need to know for 100% certain that the above will work on XP Pro, has the proper drivers, etc., but if they also work on Linux, that would be ideal. Everything else about these models fit my requirements...USB connection, above average photo/graphics printing, good buyer reviews, etc. I am just no longer confident I can tell real drivers from bogus ones, so hope someone can help with that. Thanks.

Can't you just go to the manufacturer's website and see what drivers they have listed for your OS? That would cut down on any confusion. If they list one, it will work. If they don't, you don't buy it.

https://www.brother-usa.com/support/

https://epson.com/Support/sl/s

For example:

https://epson.com/Support/Printers/...PT_C11CF46201?review-filter=Windows+XP+64-bit

Also isn't XP Professional just a 64-bit version of XP? I checked the Canon site for the TS9020 model, and they obviously don't list any drivers for Windows XP, so I'm not sure how that confusion came to be.
