Inkjet ink usage vs. resolution

I've just worked out from some independent tests that I can get 53 8" x 10" full colour photo prints from an HP 990CXi colour cartridge.

BUT...

They said their test was done at "standard settings and resolution". I assume this means 600x600dpi (the printers "normal" resolution).

IF SO...

How much does ink usage increase with resolution increase. I see the maximum resolution is 2400x1200dpi, surely this can't use 8 times as much ink as at 600x600...
