Ink refill kits

Any advice from experience about refill ink/kit providers for HP Deskjet 3420/3425?

This will be my first attempt at using refill ink; and I'd like to know about any pitfalls.

Thank!

Long ago I tried refilling cartridges for a Canon printer. In theory you save lots of money. I found that refilling a used cartridge rarely worked so I bought empty new ones. Even those did not work all the time. In addition, it was messy. It was very easy to spill or leak. In the end I went back to buying the OEM cartridges. Maybe techniques have changed or some printers are easier to refill so you may have great results.

Also, using 3rd party inks open up a can of worms. First, depending on the quality and type of ink, printers can clog more. Second, you may have to recalibrate if you are printing photos as the 3rd party inks don't have the exact properties of the original.

Hope it works for you!

egale has some very valid points. I'd like to add something... for refilling, if your printer uses ink tanks w/o printhead, easier to refill. Ones with printheads built-in (like HP, Lexmark) are not as easy to refill.

Personally I don't have a problem with refilling. I used a Canon BJC600e for years on a single set of cartridges and a few refill kits. I've seen refill kits being sold at computer shows by the pint. That's a lot of ink!
