Do ink refill kits from companies such as this: http://cgi.stratitec.com/FMPro?-db=default.fp5&-format=ST/itemdetail.html&item===EIR480S&brand=stratitec&-max=1&-find work? Should i be worried about them getting the colors right/damaging my printer/etc.? Will the inks wear out quicker?
12 dollars, eh?

I pay $30 for the colour cartridge for my Epson photo printer (a real photo printer by the way).

And, no, refill kits use substandard ink and will make your prints look crappy.

I actually just bought refill ink for my i850 and it was from a place that was recommended to me because they had good results.. Ive found that the ink is subpar and not worth it to save a few bucks. Id rather pay the $12 for ink.

Last time I used a refill kit, the prints were faded the moment they were printed. Cheap ink, I guess they water it down.

People buy these nice photo-printers and then crap themselves when they have to buy ink. Would you rather the printer be expensive, or the ink? The company has to make their $$ somewhere. $72 for color+photo isn't horrible, especially since you don't waste any of the ink when a colour runs out.

definitely true.. i hate our HP because one color runs out and you have to pay $50 to replace one color and waste the other 2. Im glad to replace individual colors now with my canon

Well, if there's a cheaper alternative that works, why not? I made antennaes for my linksys router, and they actually work better than the signal booster that i tried!

They will "work", but why did you buy a photo printer then in the first place? Why not a FAR hot deals special printer, if all you want to do is "work". If you want quality, you go with the real deal.

Refilling your Canon cartridges is rather easy and the results will be good. If you use good quality USA made ink you can get near the quality of the original carts. As far as the Canon magenta, Canon has a patent on it, so you lose a little there with eneric ink.

I'll get up a a few links for you and in the mean time the poor suckers who have HP, Epson or Lexmark printers can pontificate a little more.

Be thankful you don't have a HP photo printer, their photo cartridges cost 30 bucks or more a pop.

Never tried the photo one, but refilling color and black on my HP is saving me tons and looks just as good as the manufacturers ink.

Stratitec uses crappy multipurpose ink, stay away from them.

Highly recommended for ink refills
