Ink indicator for Epson Stylus printer

I have an Epson Stylus 600 and I can't figure out how to get the ink indicator (that normally pops up while printing) back. I have been using the generic XP driver because I get a warning trying to install the Epson one. Even if I do install the Epson one it doesn't work. There's no mention on the Epson site about this. Anyone have any answers?
 
Actually, the ink indicator is part of the Epson Status Monitor software, not the basic printer driver. As some of us have found out, Status Monitor doesn't work under XP, not even the Win2K version. Here's hoping Epson will issue a version of Status Monitor that works with XP.
