Ink Cartridge Refills?

What does everyone think about these things? Saves a lot of money, let me just hear your input.

It saves you a lot of money and sacrifice very little in quality depending on the brand of refill you use. Another thing, it always assures you of spare ink available 24/7.

Bah... too much hassle. Try http://www.megatoners.com. It can be incredibly cheap, depending on the cart you need. I've got a bunch of old Epson 600's and 740's at work and I pay .90 for black and $1.90 for color in brand new carts. So cheap it makes it not worth it for the hassles of refilling.

OTOH, I've had some SERIOUS problems with laser toner carts from them (reman's).... enough to cause several hundred dollars worth of damage to a couple of laser printers. Sadly, Megatoners basically has NO customer server and are of NO USE if there are problems. For cheap ink carts though, they are pretty good.

I just get refilled ink from ebay vendors. No fuss, no muss.

Depends on the printer you are using. Refilling is the only way to really knock the TCO of HP or Lexmark printers down. There are good bulk ink suppliers like Computer Friends that have been at it about as long as anyone.

Most Canons and Epsons can use cloned ink tanks that are quite inexpensive - saves the mess of refilling. My current favorite for cloned tanks is: http://www.swiftink.com .

Never tried but heard you need to use up the ink in a short period, otherwise it wrecks the print head. If you go thru a lot of printing/ink guess there ok. Otherwise, no.

But that could of been a bad rap from hp or brother trying to put fear in refilling.???

Refill, refill refill... both toner and inkjet, either yourself or other sources. Some experimentation may be required before you get the reliability / quality. No problems since 2-3 years. Savings can buy me 10 printers by now I guess.

I first tried about 5 years ago with my HP. It didn't work well, refilling took 1/2 hour, and the print quality was crap, so I gave up.

I tried again with my new Canon i bought last year (Pixma ip5000). Works beautifully - I can't tell the difference. And it only takes about 5mins now that I know what I'm doing.

But: If I'm printing high-quality colour prints (photos), I prefer using proper Canon inks. I'm paying enough for the high-quality paper, so I don't want to screw it up with a bad lot of ink.
