Initiation Fee

I'm fine with paying my EI, QCC (or whatever), Union Dues, etc, but I'd really like to know what this "initiation fee" is that they're taking off my check every week. I'm asking someone when I get to work tomorrow, but I'm impatient and would rather know now. -_-
