Initial BCS ratings out

I wish they would just list the stupid poll, instead of writing an article about it. All I want to see is the BCS rankings, not read sh!tty analysis of it.

The BCS will never get it right, After last years joke I dont know how they think they have fixed it this year. There will always be discrepencies.

They need to put strength of schedule back into it.

Using the old calculations, USC would have the 3rd best SOS, Miami 4th, and Oklahoma 15th. Wouldn't have changed a thing.

That's fine, but it should still be in there. It's an important factor in my opinion.

It is in it. The voters consider the strength of schedule; four one-loss teams are ahead of Utah in the coaches poll for example. The computers also consider strength of schedule. So if sos is a major part of all of the individual BCS parts, why have an extra column for it?

Plus the old SOS calculation was quite flawed. There are plenty of websites and Anandtech threads discussing the problem with it.

how do you figure that out?

If they didn't include SOS then Notre Dame wouldn't even make the cut. They always pick a tough schedule.

The old formula was quite simple. It was 2/3 the record of your opponents + 1/3 the record of your opponent's opponents.

However, I didn't do the math for all 117 teams. For that, I subscribe to collegebcs.com

North Carolina 1st, Florida State 2nd. Arizona St would be 5th. Also, Utah would be 47th.

From a mathematical standpoint, the entire system is flawed. One specific portion of the equation (if it could even be deemed that) removed or added will not make a significant difference. Most of the data is human opinion - just averaged.

Unfortunately, the press and Joe Average NCAA football fan believe the system is far more complex than it is in reality.

Go Utes. 🙂

That's right. Go Utes. Their average margin of victory has been 24 points. (i know they don't play a tough schedule) but they KILLED Texas A&M though. They also have AWESOME tailgate parties (for a smaller conference school)

OU need to be wary of their back to back road games at Stillwater and College Station. They are so beat up right now, and in all likelyhood will continue to be beat up that they will lose one of the two.

I honestly dont know why Utah is ranked so high. Sure they are undefeated and they slaughtered A&M during the first game but A&M was unranked and so have all of their other opponents. Utah wont remain undeafeted. IMHO only Miami will remain undefeated through the regular season.

At this point in the season A&M would likely slaughter Utah.
