Do a search, this topic comes up every week. You need win2k sp4 or winxp with sp1 to see more space.

Thanks.. I had done a brief search.. just redid and found some threads..

in one it said that i will need to reformat my hd again.. to get the space back.. How can i do this without uninstalling windows since the SATA hd is the only one I have..

You'll probably have to slipstream SP4 into a new Windows 2000 installation disk. Do a search for "slipstream" in the OS forum for more details on how to do that. Once you have slipstreamed the service pack, then you should be able to format the full size of the drive with the Windows install disk. You have to reinstall your OS, though.

Another option would be to just apply the service pack to your current installation, shrink down the current partition a little with a partition resizing program, and then create a new partition for your data files (MP3s, videos, important documents). With your OS and program files serparate from your data in a second partition, it is a lot less of a PITA to upgrade to a new OS in the future or change your processor/mobo since you can wife your OS partition and reinstall without having to worry about your data being lost.

You don't have to slipstream. Just use diskpart.exe to extend the partition once 48-bit LBA is enabled.
