Infrared keyboard = better range than radio?

I'm just wondering, as I've come across a reasonable looking nice shiny Infrared keyboard. Assuming that it's going to be used on a coffee table with no obstructions between it and the receiver, can I expect better than the less-than-pathetic range I'm getting from my Logitech Cordless Desktops?
