Informers rewarded yet?

Hi,

Does anyone know whether the informers that ratted on Saddam's sons have been paid yet? Did they get $30 million as promised?

I would hope this is all done and dusted - as IMHO failure to do so undermines the administration's integrity as seen by Iraqi's and would-be informers.

Cheers,

Andy

I remember over the weekend they said that Powell had yet to make a decision, but by now I bet they would have been payed

Any confirmation? - this kind of news should definitely be publicised.

I heard on NPR that the owner of the estate where the sons were is suppose to get the reward.

But lots of Iraqis didn't like him for various reasons.

An account was set up for him and he was allowed to immediately withdraw several million dollars. They used the money confiscated in the house. They have about 70 million left over for additional rewards.

If that's the case he should still get the money. When Iraq's judicial system is up and running they can try him for any crimes people think he may have committed - rich or not.

The people that are most likely to be in the know about where the big guys are, are by reason most likely to be people that the criminals have *some* trust in. If they have trust they may well be involved in Ba'athist activities. So, by reason I would think that from day it was pretty obvious that the people who in all probability would be claiming these monies would not be the best liked.

Still, pay them, pay them fully and pay them now. Anything else undermines the effort to get this job donw, get Iraq on it's feet and get the US out of there. $30 million is a small price compared to that.

Cheers,

Andy

Good news. Now put it on posters, the radio, tv and make sure everyone knows and that they get the full $30 million.

Cheers,

I had heard at the very first that they were determining what he was eligible for from the two rewards of "up to 15 million dollars each", leaving in question how much they were going to pay. Later I had heard that they decided to give him the full rewards. Haven't heard anything about it since then.

I'm pretty sure he is not going to stay in Iraq. Saddam has too many butt-buddies that would seek revenge. Last time I heard he was going to get the 30mill and go into protective custody.

Whats wrong with the $30 million reward? I mean, we found bookoos of money in the various palaces, so wouldnt it be common sense to use Saddam's own money to pay them off? We have already found more than a mere $30 million, so that amount is just pitty change.

Whilst I see your point - did anyone ever notify people that they would be spending their money on the reward, before offering it or fixing a sum?

Andy

No, Saddam's money should be used for rebuilding Iraq, not for bounty hunting. That $30 mil should be paid solely out of US government's pocket, and I believe that's the case here. After all, the US in control of Iraq right now is different, at least in principle, from Mogolian Golden Horde subjugating Russia.

I fail to see the difference between rebuilding Iraq and bounty hunting. You cant rebuild Iraq with the former administration running around on the loose, threatening to re-unite anybody whos willing to fight against us.

The process of sweeping out the officials first is essential in rebuilding Iraq. Also, technically speaking, nobody really knows exactly how much they found, so it doesnt really matter anyways.

Why is that? We really don't have any control over Iraqi mob looting the palaces in midst of chaos, but if the US soldiers find anything, they are supposed to report it, right? George Clooney and three kings are just movie figures, right? Or, is it common practice for conquerers and am I being mistaken here.

And I disagree that bounty hunting is part of rebuilding. This reveals the political stance of you and me, so instead of elaborating further, forgive me for cutting it short in this thread.
