Are there any yellow question marks or exclamation points in your Device Manager?

You may want to contact Asus' tech support. If your board is still under warranty, they may RMA it at no charge.

Another thing that may help is Unknown Device Identifier. I just found out about it, and I haven't had a chance to test it, yet, but it may help you confirm that your onboard sound chip is working.

I found it while searching Google for M2NMX soundmax driver recognize hardware. You may want to check some of the other links for more answers.

Good luck. :)

Sounds like you're back to contacting Asus' tech support. I tried. :)
