Infocus x1... :(

Since we moved into the new house, I finally have room to get a projector so I bought a screenplay 4800 (same thing as x1). Adelphia was here yesterday and installed an 8300hd dvr. So I was looking at the x1 faq and found this:

"VGA port: 1080i, 720p, 576p, 480p - Component and RGBHV; Computer connections (1024x768, 800x600, 640x480)

S-Video port: 576i, 480i - Component and S-Video - Faroudja DCDi processing

Composite port: 576i, 480i - composite video - Faroudja DCDi processing
"

Now heres my question, since I will be hooked up the hd box via component to the x1, what about regular tv (non hd channels). Won't those look crappy because the faroudja chip isnt being used? The only reason I ask is that my friend has the a phillips crt hdtv and his regular channels look pretty bad. Is there any way around this? Thanks.

Edit:
Got the projector today and it is indeed working great. My only issue is that the guy advertised it as only 12 hours of use. I just checked the lamp and it says 706?!! hours. I emailed the guy and was pretty nice about it. He already left my a positive as soon as I paid. What do you guys think I should do?

Except a new blub will cost u about 300 bucks. Make sure that the hours are for the bulb lights and not the number of hours the projector was used. I think there are two different counters.

I think he screwed you on the hours. I would definitely pursue that one unless you got a ridiculously good deal, as rather than being "almost new" that bulb is clearly "very very used."

Edit: AHA RedPickle has a very good point - it could be that this was the 2nd (or even 3rd) bulb put into the projector?? Not sure if there'd be any way for you to verify that though...

Yea, I'm not sure about the X1 and whether or not it has both counters, but I'm sure some projectors do. If there are 702 hours logged on that bulb, be ready to change it within 6 months depending on usage.

It says "706" Lamp hours used. So out of 3000-4000 hours, this is pretty large. I am protect up to $1000 via paypal, but I just hope this guy gives me like 50 bucks to make up for it.

I bought an NEC projector off the e-place last year. The seller mentioned in his auction that the unit only had 5 hours use. When I received it I installed it and found that it had 3 times as many hours (a total of 15). I let it go.....

In your case I would divide the hours on the lamp by the "expected" life (say 2000 hours) and multiply that by the cost of a new bulb. Ask the seller to reimberse you that amount in consideration for misrepresenting the unit. If he balks at that then request a refund. Those replacement lamps are a killer ($$$) to replace.

BTW what did you pay for the unit? Do you consider it a good deal?
