Info/Resources for Fantasy Football n00bs?

Hi there. I'm looking to play my first year of fantasy football this year, and I was wondering if you good folks could supply some links with good resources for n00bs such as myself. Perhaps some basic strategy and terminology?

BTW, I have gone through Google, but there's a sea of info and lots of it seems to be advertisements for the site itself. That's totally understandable, but I'm a beginner so I don't need the "for serious players" stuff quite yet. 🙂 My hope is that folks here have to "go-to" links that they've already found useful.

Thanks very much!! 🙂

I use Rotoworld.com to get my fantasy baseball info. They update player news all of the time and have tons of info and stats for teams and players. They have a fantasy football section, but I've never used it since I don't usually do fantasy football. It's worth a look at least.

running backs are key.. after that, try to get a qb/wr combo.. that's usually the strategy i go for in drafts..

Looking to play FF for the first time this year
please don't

everytime i think of fantasy football i think of this old commercial where some guy embarasses himself around his friends because he jumps up and screams "oh my god he's on my fantasy football team!!!"

payteon manning will not be such a big producer as alst year. he does not deserve a #1 draft pick since the shakeup of the offense makes it less effective and that before his breakout 2004-2005 season, he peaked around 35tdsin a season. look for around 30-35 tds this season instead of another record. he's a 2nd or 3rd round choice if he's still available there.

One thing that is CRITICAL is to know how your passing vs rushing TDs are scored.

Most public leagues are set to 6 points for passing. In these leagues a guy like Peyton Manning might be worth a #1 pick.

I've also been in private leagues were passind TDs were worth only 4 points. In these leagues you don't need to draft a QB until the 5th or 6th round, since they don't produce nearly as much as good RBs/WRs. Note that receiving TDs were still worth 6 points in those leagues.

It all depends on the scoring. I still think that a guy like Tomlinson has to be #1, since I think he's going to produce huge numbers this year, especially since Brees is playing well.

Thanks for all the resources, folks! 🙂

jndietz, I take it you don't play FF at all otherwise you would have had a first year playing it, too. If that's the case, I can't understand why you came into this thread. If not, then maybe you somehow went from never playing to being a second-year player? Congrats on that feat!

i played it one year and i didn't understand it at all!!! it was lame!

and actually i don't understand football in the least bit

As others have said, it depends on your scoring system. I will add that roster limitations also factor in the decision. In my league, QBs score the most points, but we can only have 1 starting QB. Thus, while it's important to have a great QB, it's more useful to a team to have 2-3 starting RBs. There are only so many starting RBs.
