Info on RC5 vs. SETI

A guy here at work is constantly bragging about his P4 and how fast it is at RC5 ( he's talking about m/Keys or something )

it's a 1.8 Gig P4 @ 2.1 How woulld this stack up at SETI ? ( DDR Ram cas.2 btw )

My machine is an XP1700+ running 11 x 150 = 1650 Mhz DDR ram cas.2 How would this do @ RC5 m/keys ?????

This is just so that he will stop nagging me with his ( super computer !!!! :disgust: )

 
From the Speed Computation Page, your XP should outperform his P4 in RC5..... That is if the performance of the XP falls in line with the performance of the Duron or TBird....


P4 @ 2.10 GHz = 2.8 Mk/sec
AMD Athlon TBird/Duron @ 1.65 = 5.6 Mk/sec


That is also if the P4 times have not improved in RC5.....


From this comparison page, it appears that those speeds listed above should hold true.....
 
It has long been known that the P4 stinks at RC5 and the Athlon kicks butt! So, your friend doesn't have a clue. No, with SETI you might find both your times in the 3 hour range.
 
From Team Lambchops benchmarks....looking at systems that are roughly equivalent to yours and his....

The times for P4 2000-2200 are from 2:58 - 3:22

The times for Athlon Palamino 1600-1666 were 3:16-3:38


So you would kick his but in RC5 far worse than he would try to kick yours in SETI..... 🙂

Seems to me like you should switch computer projects. Run RC5 for him and he runs SETI for you! win-win situation, lol. 🙂
 
Yeah that could be BUT he thinks SETI is a Hazzle setting up and dealing with ???????

So i'm affraid it's a No Go 🙁
Also i'm a little bit ( read . LOT ) more confident that it runs flawlessly @ my home than by him 😉

I tried to get him to join The TA RC-5 effort but he claims that he's already on a team 🙁

 
My 900 Mhz Slot A Thunderbird with PC-100 memory runs RC5 almost as fast as my P4 1.6a @ 2.2 Ghz with 414 Mhz memory :Q

Seti however is a completely diferent story, The P4 is almost 2x as fast.....
